The program of this trip to the castles of Queribus and Peyrepertuse
Throughout this day, I will be both your driver and guide. I will show you around Queribus and Peyrepertuse since, as an official guide, I am authorized to guide you in these two castles.
From the car park, it takes us 10 minutes to access the castle of Queribus. The climb is steady but not difficult.
We will cross together the three successive enclosures which protect the access to the keep. Along our journey, I will explain the reasons for Queribus to exist. I will show you its different defense elements as well as the famous pillar room.
From the platform at the top of the keep, you will discover the breathtaking view of the Roussillon plain, the Pyrenees and, weather permitting, the Mediterranean.
After our visit to the castle of Queribus, you will have time to have lunch.
I would advise you to stop 5 minutes from Queribus, in the village of Cucugnan. Several restaurants are located there.
The castle of Peyrepertuse is 10 minutes from Cucugnan.
I must admit: the castle of Peyrepertuse is my favorite castle. The site is absolutely grandiose. The castle and the rocky ridge it dominates form an impressive whole.
From the car park, it takes about 20 minutes to walk up to the castle. The climb is relatively easy.
First of all, we will visit the Lower Castle, totally flat and shaped like a spur. We will enter the chapel and the old keep.
Then we will climb the famous Saint Louis staircase, carved into the rock in 1242, which leads to the San Jordi keep. From the top, the view is extraordinary on the Lower Castle and the Corbieres chain.
To learn more, visit the castle of Peyrepertuse website.
We will then return to your starting point.
It is possible to end this excursion elsewhere than at your starting point. I can drop you off in Carcassonne if you wish to stay there for one or more nights.
I can also take you to Barcelona, Toulouse, or even Albi for example. If you are interested, contact me without delay, I will tell you the supplement to pay.
