The program of this trip at Pont du Gard and Nîmes
Throughout this day, I will be both your driver and guide. I will show you around the Pont du Gard and Nîmes since, as an official guide, I am authorized to guide you in these places.
Located in the countryside, the Pont du Gard is the highest aqueduct bridge in the Roman world. It is nearly 50 meters high.
It is one of the works which made it possible to bring clear water from Uzes to Nimes. At this precise place, the aqueduct spans the Gardon thanks to this bridge raised on three stories.
After having presented to you the reasons for the Pont du Gard and the construction techniques of the Romans, I will take you to the panorama in order to enjoy the most beautiful view, which is magnificent.
To learn more, visit Pont du Gard website.
We will then continue our journey towards Nîmes.
When you arrive in Nîmes, I will give you some free time for lunch.
Then we will visit together the amphitheater of Nîmes, also called the Arena.
If it is not the largest in the Roman world, it is considered that the amphitheater of Nimes is the best preserved.
After observing it from the outside, we will enter the amphitheater to discover the details and sit in the stands.
I will tell you about Roman life in Nîmes, and the activities and events that took place here in the amphitheater.
We will then walk through the pedestrian streets of the historic center of Nîmes, to the Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Castor cathedral (closed on Tuesdays), to finish in front of the other emblematic monument of Nîmes: the Maison Carrée (exterior view) .
La Maison Carrée is an ancient temple located on the forum of the Roman city, which dates from the 1st century.
We will then return to your starting point.
It is possible to end this excursion elsewhere than at your starting point. I can drop you off in Avignon if you wish to stay there for one or more nights.
I can also take you to Marseille, Nice, or even Lyon for example. If you are interested, contact me without delay, I will tell you the supplement to pay.
