Aigues-mortes visit

The fortified city of Aigues Mortes is protected by a wall pierced with 10 gates
Aigues-Mortes was founded in the middle of the 13th century by the King of France Louis IX (Saint Louis for the French). It was then the first port created by the kings of France on the Mediterranean. I will explain to you why the village is in fact a few kilometers from the sea.
Still today protected by ramparts of 1600 meters, it's a grid-plan city.
I will guide you to Place Saint-Louis, in the Notre-Dame des Sablons church and through the alleys of Aigues-Mortes.
THE TOWER OF CONSTANCE AND the ramparts of aigues-mortes

The Tour de Constance was built from the founding of Aigues-Mortes
If you wish, we will access the Tower of Constance (entrance fee). It is the most imposing tower of Aigues-Mortes, it was built when the city was created.
This tower served both as a keep for the royal castle and as a lighthouse to locate the port for navigators.
We will visit the old prisons then we will do a very interesting route at the top of the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes.
While walking on the rampart walk, we will pass from tower to tower in order to enjoy both views of the village, the port and the famous salt marshes.
